Another day in Vallarta and the weather is glorious, blue sky, no humidity, sun is shining, an absolutely perfect day. Had breakfast on the patio overlooking the pool and the ocean I could sit here all morning but hey, need to get some work done.
As I am only here for 2 days I can't get out on the numerous excursions that are available, but for all of you lucky people that may be planning a vacation here I've created a short list of some of the activities that you could do.
Dolphin Adventures - you can swim with them, be a trainer for a day, or just watch them perform. Whale Watching -from Mid December to the end of March, I saw some as I walked the beach but on a tour you actually get close as you are taken out on a boat. Jeep Safari - explores traditional old Mexican villages and the areas surrounding them, away from Vallarta's suburbs, it's a full day excursion. Canopy Tours - zip lining and crossing hanging bridges in an eco reserve, great experience and a great adrenalin rush, tried this in Costa Rica and it's quite an experience, highly recommend this. Snorkeling & Sailing - to areas south of Vallarta Deep Sea Fishing - it speaks for itself That's just some of the organized stuff you could do many more available and you'll find advertisements everywhere for these tours. Then there is, eating, drinking and just lying on the beach.
Ok off to the Romantic zone of Vallarta. The area just south of the Rio Cuale in the Old Town. The area is cobble stoned streets, great cafes, restaurants, bookstores, antique shops, historic architecture and home of Playa de Los Muertos or beach of the dead. A great area to spend an afternoon just walking and browsing. Easy to find, just walk south from the Sea Horse or Cathedral along the Malecon and you will arrive in about 10 minutes.
During my walk came across Xocodiva Artisan Chocolates right next door to the San Marino Hotel - this shop run by Canadian chocolatiers Carole Fast and Charlotte Semple produces the finest European chocolate. Artisan truffles daily, along with a variety of roasted gourmet nuts, caramel popcorns and other sweet treats. Make sure you try the Chili Lime Truffle, biting into it you first get a taste of dark chocolate, then a hint of fresh lime is evident and shortly after you can taste the Chile Morita - totally sinful.
Made my way back to the center of town passing the Rio Cuale flea market. worth a visit , you never know when you could use an extra mexican blanket or a giant sombrero.
Its' early evening and the Malecon is starting to come alive with throngs of people. Great place to people watch, small kiosks are set up that sell fresh fruits, roasted corn on the cob, crepes, french fries topped with hot dog bits, yup that's what I said, can't figure out why they put the hot dog bits on top of the fries.
That's it from Vallarta, wish I had more time, make sure you look at the pictures I've taken, they tell you more.
